Is an EV really cheaper than petrol in India?
For most city riders with home charging, yes — running costs typically drop by 80 to 90 percent, because electricity for a scooter costs roughly ₹300 a month where petrol for the same distance costs over ₹2,000. The saving shrinks if you depend on public chargers or ride very little. The running-cost calculator shows the numbers for your own daily distance.
How long does an EV battery last?
Most manufacturers warranty scooter and car batteries for 5 to 8 years, and modern lithium packs usually outlast the warranty with 70 to 80 percent capacity remaining. Heat, frequent fast charging and parking at 100 percent for long stretches speed up ageing — our battery guide covers the details.
Can I use an EV if I don't have a garage or charging point?
You can, but the economics weaken. Removable scooter batteries that charge indoors solve this for many apartment dwellers. If you would rely entirely on public chargers, run the calculator with a high public-charging share before deciding.
Are EVs good for long highway trips?
Highway speeds cut real range by 20 to 35 percent and charging networks along highways are still growing. Electric cars with 300 km-plus real range manage intercity trips with one stop, but for frequent long journeys petrol or hybrid remains the practical choice today.
