Why we built this
Between the showroom and the purchase stands a wall of numbers — claimed ranges, running-cost promises, subsidy headlines — and almost none of it arrives in a form that answers the actual question: will an EV work for my life, on my roads, at my tariff? The showroom answers with enthusiasm, the internet answers with arguments, and the buyer is left doing arithmetic on a phone screen outside the dealership.
We built EVSearch to do that arithmetic properly. Every calculator on this site shows its assumptions in plain sight, every guide explains its reasoning, and every claim that depends on a tariff or a fuel price is written so you can substitute your own. If a tool on this site gives you a number you cannot reproduce by hand, that is a bug — tell us.
How we make money
The site is free and supported by advertising. We do not sell vehicles, we are not paid by manufacturers, and no brand influences what our calculators assume or what our guides say. Advertising pays for hosting and writing; it does not write the content. When we mention a category of product — a charger type, a warranty structure — we describe the category, never a sponsor's product.
Our editorial principles
- Show the assumptions. Every result is only as honest as its inputs. Ours are printed next to every calculator, with the reasoning behind each default.
- Derate the marketing numbers. Claimed range, claimed efficiency, claimed charging speed — this site's guides consistently translate brochure figures into real-world ones, and explain the translation.
- No brand rankings we can't defend. We do not publish "best EV" lists, because such lists are either honest for one week or dishonest for one year. We teach the evaluation framework instead.
- Uncertainty is content. Where data is genuinely young — used-EV pricing, long-term battery outcomes — we say so, present scenarios, and avoid false precision.
How the content is made
Our guides and articles are written and edited by the EVSearch team, drawing on public information: government policy documents, utility tariff schedules, published battery research, and the accumulated experience of Indian EV owner communities. We do not republish press releases, and we do not use scraped or auto-generated content. Figures change — tariffs, subsidies, fuel prices — so dated articles carry updated dates, and any rupee figure specific enough to go stale is written with its assumption attached so you can recompute it.
